Rocky Mountain Power’s net metering (NEM) program credits excess solar generation at the retail electricity rate against future utility bills. When the solar system produces more than the home consumes (summer midday), excess flows to the grid and is credited. When the home draws more than the system produces (evenings, winter), it draws from the grid at the retail rate. Monthly netting means credits roll forward for up to 12 months — summer surplus offsets winter deficit. RainFire Builders manages the interconnection application with Rocky Mountain Power on every solar installation: application submission, utility engineering review, meter coordination, and permission-to-operate (PTO) process — typically 2–8 weeks. The system may not be energized before PTO; the PTO letter is delivered at project closeout.
