Before a single sheet of drywall goes up, before a single pipe is routed, before a single wire is pulled — there is the frame. It is the skeleton of every wall, ceiling, and opening in your home, and it determines everything that follows. RainFire Builders brings structural precision and trade coordination to every framing project across Utah.
THE FOUNDATION OF EVERY INTERIOR
What is Interior Framing?
Interior framing is the construction of a building’s internal wall and ceiling skeleton using dimensional lumber or cold-formed steel studs. It defines every room boundary, hallway, closet, and open-plan space in a home or commercial building — and it establishes the structural support system that holds floors, roofs, and upper stories in place.
A well-framed interior is more than just walls in the right places. It is a system of carefully sized lumber, engineered openings, and precisely placed blocking that supports every trade that follows: the plumber running drain lines through top plates, the electrician pulling cable through drilled studs, the HVAC tech fitting ductwork between joists. Framing errors become everyone else’s problem — which is why getting it right from the start is non-negotiable.
RainFire Builders’ framing crews are experienced in both wood platform framing (the standard for residential construction) and cold-formed steel stud systems (used in commercial and mixed-use projects). Every wall we build is squared, plumbed, and braced before inspection — not after.
Wood Platform Framing
The standard for residential construction. Each floor “platform” is framed independently using dimensional lumber (2×4 or 2×6 studs at 16″ or 24″ on center). Versatile, cost-effective, and widely understood by every finish trade.
Steel Stud Framing
Cold-formed metal studs and tracks are used in commercial construction and high-end residential work. Dimensionally stable, mold-resistant, fire-rated, and ideal where straight walls are critical for tile or large-format finishes.
Engineered Framing Systems
LVL beams, I-joists, and engineered lumber are used for long-span structural openings and floor systems. Eliminates shrinkage and warping issues common with dimensional lumber in large-span applications.
Specialty Framing
Curved walls, arched openings, vaulted ceiling frameworks, coffered ceiling grids, and custom stair framing — complex carpentry that requires precision layout and experienced hands on every cut.

The RAINFIRE FRAMING PROCESS
Interior framing is not a race — it is a sequence. Every step we take is deliberate and coordinated with the trades that follow, so nothing has to be redone when plumbing or electrical crews arrive.
Every framing project begins with precision layout. Our crew references approved architectural plans to snap chalk lines on the subfloor, establishing exact wall locations, door openings, and room boundaries. Any conflicts with structural drawings or MEP rough-in plans are flagged before a single plate is cut.
Bottom and top plates are cut and positioned along the snap lines. Pressure-treated lumber is used for all bottom plates that contact concrete slabs — a non-negotiable in Utah where slab-on-grade construction is common. Double top plates are used on load-bearing walls. All plates are secured per code to the subfloor and ceiling framing above.
Studs are cut and installed at 16″ or 24″ on center per engineering specifications. Door and window rough openings are framed with king studs, jack studs (trimmers), headers sized to span and load, and cripple studs below sills. Header sizing is calculated from load tables or structural engineering — not guesswork.
After erection, every wall is checked for plumb (vertical alignment) and straightness using a level, string lines, and laser if required. Walls are braced before anyone walks away. Out-of-plumb framing causes domino problems for drywall, cabinets, tile, and trim — we eliminate those problems here, not downstream.
Backing blocks are installed for future handrails, grab bars, cabinetry, and TV mounts — anywhere a finish trade will need solid wood behind a finished surface. Fire blocking is installed at all required locations per the Utah building code. Final framing inspection is then coordinated with the local building department before any insulation or drywall begins.
