For most Utah interior trim applications, high-quality waterborne alkyd or acrylic-alkyd hybrid paints now match or exceed traditional oil-based paints — with much faster dry times, easy water cleanup, and significantly lower VOC emissions. In Utah’s dry climate, oil-based paints can skin at the surface faster than they cure beneath, potentially causing adhesion issues. True oil-based paints are still specified for some restoration work where their hard, enamel-like cure is preferred.
